WHAT IS A FALL?

  • The World Health Organization defines falls as:
    • An event that leads a person to come to rest inadvertently on the ground or floor.
    • These falls can be fatal or non-fatal

Although everyone is at risk, there are key risk factors that can put you at risk:

  • Age
    • Individuals over the age of 65
    • Children
  • Gender
    • Women: Women are more likely to suffer non-fatal falls. This is due to physiological changes as they get older.
    • Men: Men are more likely to die from a fall. This can be caused by physiological changes and the type of work they do.
